very ridiculous algorithm...

The first pen that vibrates when you make a mistake!

The Lernstift is an entirely new digital pen, packed with sophisticated tech that recognizes all writing movements and lets you know when you’ve made a mistake. Lernstift uses a new approach to motion tracking and handwriting recognition: the pen works completely independent from external components or specialty paper.

You can choose between two functions: Calligraphy Mode – pointing out flaws of form and legibility. Orthography Mode – detecting orthographic and grammatical mistakes. The mini computer inside Lernstift is pretty much like a smartphone "stripped to the bone" – without everything that isn't necessary for our purposes. The board will be connected to motion sensors. Next to a Wi-Fi antenna the pen will also have a small multi-color LED.

The sensor used in Lernstift is a state-of-the-art motion sensor that combines gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer technology. It calculates the pen's 3D movements and generates 2D vectors. The sensor delivers a resolution of approx. 400 dpi at 200 Hz. The handwriting recognition engine requires only 100 dpi at 50 Hz. Upon launch, Lernstift will be available in English and German. But inventors have a catalogue of more than 40 languages and will switch them online step by step.

The pen recognizes words, gestures and symbols, even if you only "draw them in the air". This opens up all new possibilities for whiteboarding applications. Lernstift is a great way to learn how to write faster and without mistakes. Lernstift is great fun, too!
This amazing device is a brainchild of German-based startup Lernstift UG.

transparent computers and bandage

Inspired by chameleon, this innovative bandage is supposed to change its color automatically on your skin, to secretly “hide” on your face, your arm, or your legs.

The world's first tricorder

The Scanadu Scout is an at-home medical sensor which sends data concerning your vital signs to a smartphone. Heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate, blood pressure, electrocardiogram (ECG) and even such less-tangible things as emotional stress level can all be monitored and recorded by simply pressing the Scanadu Scout to your forehead. Your body’s information where it belongs: in your hands. Share it with your doctor and others to take health conversations – and discoveries – to a new level.

Scanadu is quick to point out that their device is as of yet not a legitimate diagnostic tool. While the device does everything it is reported to, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hasn't approved it as an over-the-counter consumer product.

Scanadu is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to not only help get their product into people's hands, but to get their hands on people's data.

Epiphany One Puck Charges Your Phone Using Hot Coffee Or A Cold Beer

The idea to use heat disparities for power is over two centuries old, and we've seen larger concepts make use of thermo-electrics. The One Puck brings mobility into play, providing us with device that charges through a USB cable, including Android devices and iPhones.
The Epiphany One Puck hides a small Stirling engine inside the coaster, turning heat disparities into usable energy. The generator works best with either very hot drinks or very cold drinks, since they create the highest amount of heat disparity.

The device has two sides; a blue side for cold drinks and a red side for hot drinks. According to its creators, a hot drink is the optimal way to charge a device. It comes with a USB port that can charge any device that draws 1000 mA or less. This means it can charge iPhones, Androids, iPods and other USB-based devices.

Since it's small enough to be pocketable, you can bring the coaster anywhere you go. That means, you can charge your phone while having coffee at Starbucks or a cold beer at the pub without having to sidle up next to an available outlet
