very ridiculous algorithm...

The first pen that vibrates when you make a mistake!

The Lernstift is an entirely new digital pen, packed with sophisticated tech that recognizes all writing movements and lets you know when you’ve made a mistake. Lernstift uses a new approach to motion tracking and handwriting recognition: the pen works completely independent from external components or specialty paper.

You can choose between two functions: Calligraphy Mode – pointing out flaws of form and legibility. Orthography Mode – detecting orthographic and grammatical mistakes. The mini computer inside Lernstift is pretty much like a smartphone "stripped to the bone" – without everything that isn't necessary for our purposes. The board will be connected to motion sensors. Next to a Wi-Fi antenna the pen will also have a small multi-color LED.

The sensor used in Lernstift is a state-of-the-art motion sensor that combines gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer technology. It calculates the pen's 3D movements and generates 2D vectors. The sensor delivers a resolution of approx. 400 dpi at 200 Hz. The handwriting recognition engine requires only 100 dpi at 50 Hz. Upon launch, Lernstift will be available in English and German. But inventors have a catalogue of more than 40 languages and will switch them online step by step.

The pen recognizes words, gestures and symbols, even if you only "draw them in the air". This opens up all new possibilities for whiteboarding applications. Lernstift is a great way to learn how to write faster and without mistakes. Lernstift is great fun, too!
This amazing device is a brainchild of German-based startup Lernstift UG.
